Today is Tuesday, April 17, and it is Tax Day. What happened to yesterday, Monday April 16th? Normally, when April 15th lands on a Sunday, the tax filing deadline is extended by one day until the 16th. Not this year! In fact, we all have one extra day to file our returns. The reason for this is due to a local Washington D. C. holiday that has the local federal offices, including the Internal Revenue Service (headquartered in Washington D.C.) closed yesterday. Therefore, we have one extra day to file!
